Historian Erin Graffy will discuss the history of our town’s favorite five-day party. Based on her book, Old Spanish Days: Santa Barbara History Through Public Art, her presentation highlights the inspiration behind celebrating the Rancho Period. She’ll provide a fascinating history of this exceptional era in California known for extraordinary hospitality, expert horsemen and an exhilarating love of music and dance. Most importantly, she’ll guide you to experience the public art that celebrates this throughout our beautiful city.

Erin Graffy de Garcia has written extensively about regional history and culture, including the series How to Santa Barbara, Saint Barbara (The Truth Tales, Tidbits and Trivia of Santa Barbara’s Patron Saint), and Noticias to name a few She served as the Old Spanish Days historian for nearly thirty years and her book highlighting California’s Rancho Period was the recipient of three national book awards. In 2020 she was named Honorary La Presidenta.
